Commodore Announces Management Changes at NCYC
The Board is pleased to announce the appointment of Michael Titow as Chief Executive Officer of NCYC. Michael comes to us with extensive experience in senior management specifically in the hospitality industry.
The appointment recognises the increased complexity in managing our Club and will facilitate our future growth plans. The board intends to have Michael assume the role of CEO in the full sense and will require him to oversee all aspects of the Club’s activities.
Our “founding” Chief Executive, Roy Baker, will assume the role of General Manager Operations, reporting to the Chief Executive Officer..
Michael will commence with the Club early March 2011.

Change at the Helm
We welcome Commodore Phil Arnall to the helm of Newcastle Cruising Yacht Club. In the April Newsletter, the then Commodore Bruce Hansen announced his decision to step down at the next meeting of the Board. This has now occured and the Board has appointed Phil Arnall to fill the role of Commodore until standing for the position in the next Club elections, the results to be announced at the AGM. Bruce Hansen has served NCYC as a Director since its inception 1n 1993, first as the Rear Commodore before taking over from our Founding Commodore Paul Hannan on his retirement. To fill the vacated Director role, the Board has appointed Kym Butler who has indicated his intention to stand for this position at the coming election.
Marina access cards
Marina access cards are now being distributed for qualifying members. It has been decided to make some changes to the issue of cards to provide greater control of this process and to assist in Marina security. A summary of the process follows:
- Full membership and crew membership cards will provide access to the marina for 12 months
- Social membership cards do not provide access to the marina
- Marina berth rental tenants will be issued swipe cards upon payment of their rent for the duration of their tenancy
- Casual visitors to the marina will be issued a swipe card for the duration of their stay upon payment of their berth fee
- Contractors working on vessels will be issued with a day card for access to the marina
- Full members requiring an additional swipe card will be charged a token fee of $5 per card in an endeavour to discourage the proliferation of disposable cards.
