The Inaugural Dinner of the NCYC Wine and Food Club will be held on Wednesday 16 May at 6.30 pm for 7.00 pm start, at NCYC Clubhouse. The dinner will be limited to 30 persons who are members of the NCYC.

Membership of this Club is for NCYC members who have an interest in and enjoy learning about great food and wine.

NCYC Sailing Forum

On Monday, 2 April 2012 NCYC CEO Richard Howard will chair a forum to provide yacht owners, crews and volunteers an opportunity to provide constructive feedback and suggestions to the Sailing Committee who are in the process of preparing the 2012-13 NCYC Sailing Calender. All involved with sailing at Newcastle Cruising Yacht Club are encouraged to attend. NCYC Supports the 2012 Sail Port Stephens Regatta

NCYC has organised the lead in, “Newcastle to Port StephensRace”, starting on Sunday 15 April 2012. This is the second of the lead in races to the 2012 “Sail Port Stephens Regatta”. On Saturday 14 April, the the Royal Prince Alfred Yacht Club (RPAYC) will hold the ”Pittwater to Newcastle Race”. The fleet will receive the usual warm welcome to our marina by the NCYC Inner Circle Rum Runners”. The week long family friendly Sail Port Stephens Regatta will be be Monday 16th to Sunday 22nd April 2012.

Skippers will find NOR and SI for both lead in races and the Regatta by accessing the link “Newcastle to Port Stephens” on the right of this page.

Information as to fun Port Stephens activities organised as part of the “Sail Port Stephens Regatta” can also be accessed through the same link.

Safe Boating Presentation

On Tuesday 27 March 2012, Newcastle Port Corporation Marine Pilot, Captain Malcolm Goodfellow will be the speaker at a “must see” presentation for all who use the harbour. Titled “Safe boating in proximity to shipping in Newcastle Harbour”, the topic will cover many interesting details regarding our harbour traffic. This is certain to be of interest to boaters and non-boaters alike.

We are now well into our summer racing season and it promises to be bigger and better than ever. NCYC is pleased to welcome a number of new yachts to our fleet, including visitors from LMYC. Our club was well represented in the “blue water” events over the holiday season, run by CYCA and RPAYC respectively.

Please be advised, that due to weather conditions causing late arrival of vessells, the planned informal breakfast for Saturday 21 January 2012 at NCYC has been cancelled. NCYC staff and management apologise for the late notice and any inconvenience. Our normal breakfast will be available as usual.

12 metre Breakfast with Ben Morgan – your questions answered

Club Members,

As you may be aware we have 12 Metre ‘Australia’ (KA5) currently on our marina and Steak ‘N’ Kidney (KA14) will arrive on Friday afternoon. These yachts have been restored by the 12 Metre Historic Trust and are on route to a new home in Sydney from where they will be regularly sailed, hopefully making regular trips to Newcastle and Wollongong for sailing days and corporate events.

At late notice, NCYC has agreed to host an informal breakfast for the 12 Metres this Saturday from 8-9.30am during which time you can learn a bit about the yachts, the restoration process and the future plans for these historically significant vessels. Ben Morgan, founder of the Trust, will be available to answer questions and provide tours of the boats. For members interested in joining the Trust the opportunity will exist to go match racing on the yachts on Saturday (subject to weather).
Come down to the NCYC, grab some brekkie on Saturday morning, learn about these fantastic machines and maybe go for a sail on a 12 Metre!

Thursday 19 January 2012 – 4.30 pm to 6.30 pm - Guided tours provided.

Placed 5th in the 2011 Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race IRC Division, Hugo Boss leaves soon for China. 2011 was an exciting year for the boat, having completed the Barcelona World Race, and competed in the Giraglia Rolex Cup, the Rolex Fastnet Race Challenge and the Artemis Challenge. While named Pindar, she finished fifth in the last Vendee Globe.

Congratulations to “She’s the Culprit” – a great win!

The 2012 Pittwater & Coffs Harbour Regatta 2012 PHSTCF Division 2 winner was “She’s the Culprit” skippered by Glen Picasso. In fact, congratulations are in order all around for NCYC representatives in this event run by the Royal Prince Alfred Yacht Club. Fellow NCYC Members had an exciting few days from start of race at 13:00 on Monday 02/01/2012. The Yacht Tracker displayed in the clubhouse was a focal point as tension mounted during the race which had an overall fleet of forty five yachts competing in seven divisions. The three NCYC yachts, “Anger Management” (NCYC Commodore Phil Arnall), “She’s The Culprit” (Glen Picasso) and “Wizzard” (Mike Hinchey), gave really creditable performances.

Results were as follows: PHSTCF Division 2 – “She’s the Culprit” 1^st place with a corrected time of 02:04:37:08. IRC Division 1 – “Wizzard” took out 7^th place with a corrected time of 02:02:18:14. “Anger Management” came in 10^th with a corrected time of 02:03:38:25. ORCI Division 1, “Wizzard” took out 2^nd place with a corrected time of 01:23:08:57, and “Shes the Culprit” followed with an 11^th placing with corrected time of 02:06:18:32. OD = “Wizzard” – 2^nd place with corrected time of 01:21:31:26.
