The 2011 fleet was blessed by NCYC Honorary Chaplain, Anlican Chaplain to the Port of Newcastle, Reverend Garry Dodd, and  NCYC Honorary Chaplain, Catholic Chaplain to the Port of Newcastle Father Stefan Sapun.     A judging team decided on winners of Best Dressed Boat And Best Dressed Crew in each division.

  •  Tug Ballet

Newcastle Cruising Yacht Club is indebted once again to Svitzer Marine for the “Tug Ballet”, a display of power and astounding maneuverability.  These performances have been an awe-inspiring feature of the NCYC Founder’s Day Parades since their inception in 2005.

  •  Trawler Cock of the Harbour Event

The majority of the Fleet from the Newcastle Fisherman’s Cooperative, along with trawlers belonging to NCYC members (some travelling from Port Stephens for the event), have enthusiastically taken part in the NCYC Founder’s Day Parade and Blessing of the Fleet, since the first of these in 2005.  As on any day, coming home from sea, a small competition develops.  After the impromptu display in 2005, the Trawler Cock of the Harbour became a regular feature on our special day.

  • Founder’s Day Celebrations back at NCYC

Most stayed to watch the start of the Founder’s Day Regatta.  The other popular option was to retire to the NCYC for Founder’s Day feasting and festivities with increased participation when the sailing finished and presentations were to be made.

  • As the year goes on

Our Honorary Chaplains,  having conducted the annual blessing, continue to pray for the fleet during the year as has been explained  by Reverend Garry Dodd:

“We have our little chapel at the Mission and on the altar is this laminated page with the names of each vessel I blessed at the  last  Founders Day ceremony. We have also included other organisations such as the Water Police, PWCS and you guys. So if  anyone at NCYC  is feeling particularly happy on a Friday, it might be because it’s the end of the week and/or the fact Stefan and I have kept you in our prayers.”
