- Blessing of the Fleet
The 2009 fleet was blessed by NCYC Honorary Chaplain, Anlican Chaplain to the Port of Newcastle, Reverend Garry Dodd. NCYC Honorary Chaplain, Catholic Chaplain to the Port of Newcastle Father Stefan Sapun who officiated at the 2008 Blessing of the Fleet reluctantly extended his apologies. Both Chaplains are looking forward to the 2010 ceremony.

- Tug Ballet
Newcastle Cruising Yacht Club is indebted once again to Svitzer Marine for the “Tug Ballet” These performances have been an awe-inspiring feature of the NCYC Founder’s Day Parades since their inception in 2005. The tug featured in the 2009 display of power and astounding maneuverability was Svitza Barunga. It would be wonderful if someone has video footage of this which could be added to the page.

- Bluetongue Trawler Cock of the Harbour Event
The majority of the Fleet from the Newcastle Fisherman’s Cooperative, along with other trawlers have enthusiastically taken part in the NCYC Founder’s Day Parade and Blessing of the Fleet since the first of these in 2005. As on any day, coming home from sea, a small competition develops. After the impromptu display in 2005, the Trawler Cock of the Harbour became a regular feature on our special day.

- Bluetongue Founder’s Day Regatta
NCYC Sailing Committee runs PHS Division 1 and Division 2, races as well as IRC. We also host a race by the Newcastle and Hunter Trailer Yacht Association. We have been proud to have the yachts from this association participate in our Founder’s Day Parade and Blessing for a number of years.

- Founder’s Day Feasting back at NCYC
Most stayed to watch the start of the Bluetongue Founder’s Day Regatta. Many remained longer to watch the Newcastle and Hunter Trailer Yacht Association Race which was sailed in the harbour, and saw the finish of all events. The other popular option was to retire to the NCYC for Founder’s Day feasting and festivities with increased participation when the sailing finished and presentations were to be made.
- As the year goes on
Our Honorary Chaplains once they have blessed the fleet, continue to pray for it during the year as is explained in the following message by Reverend Garry Dodd:
“We have our little chapel at the Mission and on the altar is this laminated page with the names of each vessel I blessed at last year’s Founders Day ceremony. We have also included other organisations such as the Water Police, PWCS and you guys. So if anyone at NCYC is feeling particularly happy on a Friday, it might be because it’s the end of the week and/or the fact Stefan and I have kept you in our prayers.”
