May 2010 Distribution of Badges Morning Tea

This function was held on 26 May for the distribution of Founding Member badges and Life Member badges as well as those for current Directors and the two NCYC Honorary Chaplains.

The photo taken in November 1993 at the first meeting pertaining to forming a yacht club in Newcastle  created a great deal of interest.  Seventeen years on it is not as easy to identify people as would first be imagined.  This image is reproduced below.

 Five of our Founders sadly have  passed away in the interim since 1994.  The wives of three of them are still members of NCYC.  We were delighted that Jenny Keegan and Lorraine Welsh were able to attend the function. As Jenny Varley could not be present, her daughter attended.     Although not Founding Members, they collected the badges of their deceased husbands/ father, and wearing them on their right shoulders were welcomed into the photo by the group of  Founders.  The badges for the deceased Founding Members are: George Keegan OAM – Life Member; Clem Varley – Founding Member and; Ivan Welsh – Founding Member.
