The Newcastle Cruising Yacht Club is committed to providing opportunities for youth sailors to further develop their sailing skills, knowledge and experience.
The Club’s fleet of six Force 24 inshore keelboats offers experienced sailors from the Hunter region the opportunity to receive expert coaching and quality competition in keelboats. The program also aims to provide a valuable link and transition opportunities from dinghies into keelboats.
During May and June the program will focus on fleet racing with the objective of competing in the 2016 Interclub Challenge between Royal Prince Alfred Yacht Club, Royal Sydney Yacht Club and the Cruising Yacht Club of Australia. The Interclub Regatta allows the NCYC to enter two teams of a maximum of 5 sailors on each team. Skippers & crew members are able to be rotated for each race of the regatta. For the NCYC Round, only one team per Club can be entered.
There is the opportunity to continue sailor development into the match racing discipline with the view to competing in the Club Marine NSW Youth Match Racing Championship at the CYCA in August as well as possibly other youth match racing events. This additional component of the program is under development and further details will be provided in due course.
