Join the NCYC Volunteers on the Water!
The Newcastle Cruising Yacht Club values all volunteers; their contribution to the club is VITAL to ensure successful, well organised club events and without them we would not have the extensive sailing calendar members enjoy each year.
Volunteering is a great way to keep yourself active and at the same time enjoy the benefits of being a part of one of Newcastle’s busiest and friendliest sailing clubs.
Our volunteers range from those who are able to volunteer on a regular basis, to those who join us once or twice a year, usually when we host major regattas & events. Some are available only on weekends, whilst others are available weekdays and afternoons to support our Sailing Academy activities. There is no requirement to volunteer a minimum number of times per annum. We value all contributions to our Club.
NCYC Volunteers can be involved with both on-shore and on-water roles as part of the sailing activities, so there is something for everyone. Volunteers assist the Sailing Office in conducting the Sailing Program of the Club and the Sailing Academy activities, from the highly qualified & experienced to the new but highly enthusiastic!
The list below will provide some insight into the many and varied roles:
- Race Officers
- Start/Finish Boat Crews (Recorders, timekeepers, flag signals, sound/signals)
- Course Layer Boat Skippers and crew
- Safety/Patrol Boat Skipper and crew
- Communications Volunteer (Radio Operators)
- Results calculations & processing
- On-water Judging & Umpiring and shore based arbitration and protest committees
- Major Regatta organization and support
We welcome you to join our band of dedicated Volunteers. We as a team are committed to excellence in Race Management and safety while very much enjoying contributing to the Club’s goals.
