This event, designed to promote and develop women’s sailing at NCYC, is an annual regatta to help our emerging sailing academy graduates make the transition into racing. We aim to ensure all competitors’ sailing experiences at the NCYC are fun and rewarding.
Six all-female crews are formed from individual competitor registrations to sail with a Sailing Academy allocated skipper/instructor in a regatta of up to six (6) fun filled races in the club’s fleet of Force 24 keelboats (the same boats our women’s sailing courses are sailed in). Crews are encouraged to swap roles, including skippering, during the regatta to ensure everyone has the opportunity to develop their skills in the different crew positions on a boat.
A Training Morning is held the week prior, to allow newly-formed crews to practice and work on their boat handling & crew work prior to the regatta. A racing rules & race management briefing will be provided on the Training Morning to enhance our entrant’s knowledge of the conduct of sailing races and provide additional education in the few important right-of-way rules required whilst racing.
At this regatta we don’t award prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd – we award prizes for improvement, achievement and entertainment! . . . . and crews have been known to dress-up on occasion!!!
