NCYC Introduces Thursday Evening Members’ Draw – April 11, 2013

Newcastle Cruising Yacht Club is pleased to announce the introduction of a Thursday Evening Members’ Draw to compliment the other membership benefits available to NCYC members.

Up to 4 draws each Thursday evening will take place at 6.15pm, 6.30pm, 6.45pm and 7pm. The cash prize will start at $200 and jackpot if not won. Members eligible to win the draw will be chosen via the use of a random number generation machine. Each member eligible of winning the draw will be identifed via the use of their NCYC Member ID Number (on the new 2013-14 NCYC membership cards) , not their membership number.

Following the draw of an eligible member’s NCYC ID Number the eligible member’s name will be announced in the Club with that member having strictly 5 minutes to approach the NCYC employee announcing the draw to claim their cash prize. Where a prize is claimed, no further draws will occur that Thursday evening. If all 4 draws occur in an evening and,no eligible member claims the prize, the cash will jackpot the following week. The minimum weekly prize amount is $200 being the same amount by which the prize will increase on a weekly basis if not claimed.

To be eligible to win you must:

  • be a financial member of NCYC as at the date of the draw;
  • be over 18 years of age at the date of the draw;
  • be in the Club at the time the draw takes places; and
  • claim the prize form NCYC staff member announcing the draw within 5 minutes of the draw occurring by showing the NCYC staff member your valid NCYC membership card (A no card no win policy will strictly apply).

Summer on the Ice – Talk by Phil Ashley-Brown about his Antarctic Adventure – February 28, 2013

On Tuesday 19 March 2013 NCYC Member Phil Ashley-Brown will be conducting a talk in NCYC’s marquee about his fantastic trip to Antarctica over Christmas while on assignment with the ABC.  Phil’s presentation of photos, video and observations about living in the conifnes of an Australian Antarctic station will be insightful and interesting. This is a talk not to be missed.

NCYC & Clean Up Australia Day – 3 March 2013 – February 20, 2013

NCYC invites members to get involved in Clean Up Australia Day.  NCYC has registered as a ‘clean up area’ with a specific focus on the rock wall / foreshore in front of the Club and the Marina and if resources allow also the foreshore up to Hannell Street bridge.

NCYC End of Summer “Up the Creek” BBQ – 28 April 2013 – February 12, 2013

NCYC invites all members and guests to attend the inaugural “up the creek’’ end of summer BBQ to be held at Ash Island picnic ground from 11.30am on Sunday 28 April 2013.

Yachts and motor boats drawing less than 2.4 metres are invited to join the flotilla and voyage up the Hunter River’s North Arm to the picnic ground where a modern floating pontoon is located at which to disembark.  Yachts can anchor in the River and NCYC’s rib will ferry people to and from the shore.


  • BBQ provided by NCYC Free of Charge (meat / salad / bread rolls)
  • Bring Your Own DRINKs
  • Anchoring in the River is OK
  • Flotilla depart NCYC approx. 9.30 am
  • Flotilla depart Ash Island approx. 2.30 pm
  • High / Low Tides  –  10am / 4pm
  • Picnic ground accessible off Maitland Rd (near Shell Petrol Station) over bridge onto Ash Island / Schoolhouse Rd.
