Now it’s time to learn to sail around a course and become a little more independent!
Our Green Fleet is open to 12 young sailors who have completed Tackers 3 and are keen to try their hand at sailing around a course and learning a bit more about racing. You’ll have a coach on water with you for assistance & guidance, but you’re now becoming a more proficient sailor & making decisions yourself!
We make it so easy as you don’t need to buy your own boat or find someone to sail with – we supply a boat every weekend!
Our Green Fleet sail on Sunday mornings during Spring & Summer. The first race is due to start at 10:00am so, to give yourself time to be rigged and ready, we suggest you arrive around 9:00am. We are able to sail up to five short races (around 15 – 20minutes each) however the number we sail will depend upon the wind & weather.
This program is very much focused on developing independent & capable sailors – you will rig your boat, launch, sail to our course area, practice your starting techniques and enjoy racing around the course. At the end of the races, you’ll sail ashore and un-rig & pack away your boat. Each week we will have a pre-race briefing to talk about the courses that will be sailed that day and any other coaching details that need to be covered. Our “Boat of the Day” achievement certificate will be awarded too!
On certain weeks we’ll have activities where we’ll adventure a bit further down into the Basin to build skills & confidence (& for a bit of fun!)
We will still supply the boats, sails & lifejackets – you do not need your own boat.
We do appreciate parental assistance for our Green Fleet! We would like to encourage all parents to help their Tacker rig & prepare for their morning’s sailing activity. Also we’d appreciate if one parent each week would help us to start the races – we’ll help with showing you what to do. Please contact Jacqui if you are keen to get involved in any way – [email protected]
We will offer two 9-week series for the 2019/20season:
