The Newcastle Cruising Yacht Club is committed to providing opportunities for youth sailors to further develop their sailing skills, knowledge and experience.
Our Youth Keelboat Program aims to provide valuable experience and transition opportunities for sailors from dinghies into keelboats, to further develop their sailing skills in both fleet racing and match racing. Applications are open to members and non-members of the NCYC.
The 2019 Youth Keelboat Program will be tiered into three levels:
Youth Development Squad (YDS)
Fleet Racing
Youth Intermediate Squad (YIS)
Fleet Racing & Introduction to Match Racing
Youth Advanced Squad (YAS)
Match Racing
The Club’s new fleet of Elliott 6s and existing fleet of Force 24 inshore keelboats offers developing and experienced sailors from the Hunter & north coast regions the opportunity to receive professional coaching and quality competition in inshore keelboat racing.
The Squad programs will run through the winter months of the year (May -August 2019), aiming to not conflict with summer dinghy racing programs.
Squad members are eligible to be selected into representative Youth Teams for a number of youth keelboat events in both fleet racing and match racing.
Sailors are not required to have already formed crews, individual sailors can apply for the 2019 Youth Keelboat Program and coaches will work with and select teams for the various training days and events in the sailing calendar.
