About NCYC’s Sailing Academy

Newcastle Cruising Yacht Club purchased six Force 24 inshore keelboats in August 2014. The NCYC Sailing Academy was originally formed to maximise the use of these boats and to develop and promote sailing within the club.

As a result of the success of the Sailing Academy, the Club purchased 12 junior dinghies in May 2016.  With this fleet the Club will deliver Australian Sailing’s TACKERS junior learn-to-sail program for 7-12 years olds.

“The NCYC’s aim is to deliver a quality sailing experience for a wide variety of ages and experience.  Through the Academy we also hope to provide a variety of ongoing sailing opportunities matched to individual’s needs and motivations”

Newcastle Cruising Yacht Club is an accredited Australian Sailing Discover Sailing Centre, offering courses for both adults and children.

Please consider the menu to the right which details all of the Sailing Academy’s activities, some of these include:

The Force 24 keelboats are also used by the NCYC Youth Performance Program, which is a squad of talented youth sailors, making the transition from dinghies to keelboats and pitting their fleet racing & match racing skills against other top youth sailors from around the country.  The Squad receive weekly coaching to challenge and improve their sailing skills.
