The Newcastle Cruising Yacht Club (NCYC) has a strong devotion to sailing, and is situated in Wickham on the all-weather, deep water, working port of Newcastle. The Club’s precinct includes a marina, shipyard & maintenance facilities, commercial center, & licensed club.
A Brief History
The Club was incorporated on the 19th of April, 1994, and since then, has grown to be a nationally recognised name in both sailing and sailing development. NCYC went through various phases of development, beginning with the completion of four marina arms, boatyard, and commercial centre. The second phase of development saw the completion of two more marina arms, and the completion of the Clubhouse in 2008. 13 years later, NCYC is moving forward with stage three of development – the expansion of the Clubhouse, where designs are currently available for viewing.
As far as Australian yacht clubs go, NCYC’s history is relatively short, yet still boasts as one of the newest yacht clubs in Australia, and certainly the newest with significant club and marina assets.

NCYC Precinct
NCYC’s marina comprises 180 marina berths of varying sizes, all with power and water, a 24hr self-service fuel wharf dispensing diesel and unleaded petrol, and an effluent pump out facility. The privately operated boatyard is equipped with a 40 tonne travel lift, a concrete hard-stand area, and an indoor maintenance area & paint shop. Marine engineering, electrical, and detailing services are available through a number of contractors who regularly work on the precinct. Our marina ammenities are located next to the administration office, which include showers, bathrooms, washers, and dryers.
Our administration office is located on the first floor of the Commercial Centre, above the Wickham Boatshed, which also houses the sailing office. Within the Commercial Centre is a privately run restaurant, sail maker & chandlery, yacht brokerage, real estate agent, and a number of other professional office suites.
NCYC’s licensed club, with its spacious courtyard and large retracting windows, hosts live music every week. We are very proud to host the Nor East Bistro who are open seven days a week for lunch and dinner, with breakfast being served from 8:30am on weekends.
The Area
NCYC has expanded rapidly since operations began in December 2001. We have made strong relationships with a variety of east coast Yacht and Game Fishing Clubs, whilst also being member of Australian Sailing, and Yachting NSW.
The City of Newcastle is commonly referred to by locals as ‘God’s Country,’ and they are right to do so. Newcastle has an incredible array of beaches, restaurants, cafes, and gallaries within 2km of NCYC, while being less than an hour drive to the famous Hunter Valley Wine Country.
We are excited to welcome members, guests, and sailors from all over to enjoy our Licenced Club, great marina facilities, and fantastic sailing.
