THEORY MODULE
Online e-Learning
This is an online course. After you have enrolled, we will send your login details. The SSSC e-learning course takes around 6 hours to complete. The content is structured so you can review the material as fast or as slow as you feel comfortable.
Theory Exam
It is a requirement to complete a 25 multiple-choice question exam, included in the online course, with a successful pass mark of 80% (20 correct) before participating in wet drill activities.
Upon completion of the theory exam, you will be provided with proof of completion to present to the Australian Sailing accredited SSSC Instructor when you are completing your wet drills.
(If you have already completed the Theory module and received your proof of completion, you can complete only the Practical module)
PRACTICAL MODULE
Wet Drills
The practical wet drills and flare demonstrations must be completed within 12 months of completing the e-Learning and exam.
The practical wet drills will be conducted at Charlestown Swim Centre (Dickinson Street, Charlestown) and the flare demonstration back near the Club (Hannell Street, Wickham).
Your AS Safety & Sea Survival Certificate will be issued on the completion date of the practical wet drills.
PRACTICAL MODULE PROGRAM
- 1:00pm to 4:00pm at Charlestown Pool
- 4:20pm to 5:00pm at ‘Pat Jordon Oval’ near Carrington Boat Ramp
- After course catch up and debrief in The Foredeck in the NCYC Clubhouse
WHAT YOU WILL LEARN
The practical module requires a minimum of eight (8) participants to go ahead in Newcastle. Pacific Sailing School reserves the right to offer alternate dates already scheduled in Sydney if minimum numbers not achieved.
In order to maintain your certification, you are required to revalidate every 5 years.
